All About Eye Lashes: A Complete Guide

Eyelashes or lashes are curved hair growing on the tips of your eyelids. Lashes are meant to protect your eyes from dust. Sometimes, your lashes look sparser than you’d like. You may have noticed that your lashes also regrow. The natural growth cycle and eventual shedding of lashes are identical to our head and body hairs.

While using a lash curler or removing makeup, premature shedding of lashes happens. But the growth of lashes takes time.

Do you know? Lashes are made of a keratin, protein. This is the same protein the hair on your head and body is made up of.

Eyelash growth Phases:

We all have about 150-200 natural lashes on our upper lids and about 75-100 on the lower eyelids of our eyes. Everyone’s lashes follow the same growth stages regardless of variation in color, thickness, and length. These phases are:

  • Anagen
  • Catagen
  • Telogen

Eyelash extension:

Eyelash extension enhances one’s beauty as lashes are volumized and eyes look bigger. Some DIY lashes (cluster lash, strip lash) that last up to 12 to 24 hours only are used as lash extensions. A professional lash extension glue is used by the lash technician to stick a super fine synthetic eyelash strand to your natural lashes. It is quite a painless process but all it needs are the hands of an expert professional eyelash technician.

The lash extension can boost the natural beauty of your eye shape:

With proper care, Eyelash extensions can last up to 4 to 6 weeks. They will shed off with your natural shedding of the growth cycle. Lash extension is a short-term treatment done by a skillful professional with salon-grade products.

Eyelash extensions are completely customizable relying only on the wearer’s tastes and eye shapes. They can make you look from very natural to extremely dramatic yet feminine. The lash extension makes effortlessly stunning the eyeline, length, and curl of the lashes. You will surely skip the morning eye-makeup routine like mascara. Hurry up to get your lash extension today!

What you need to know before getting lash extensions:

Is the lash extension safe?

Surely it is safe if done accurately. It will not even damage your natural lashes but with proper provision. There are chances of getting issues like eye infections, allergies, and loss of natural lashes. But this is never caused by getting lash extensions but rather caused by unprofessionally performed eyelash extension placement.

So, it's crucial to find an expert lash technician. He must have adequate experience, product knowledge, and proper techniques to ensure artistic styling and safety of lash clients. Such technician uses high-quality glue/remover, lash extensions, and tools, knowing which type of lash product is the best and for whom. All in all, risks for lash loss and allergies can be greatly minimized.

How much do eyelash extensions cost?

The charges will vary significantly based on the following: the artists' experience level, the location of your lash artist, and the style of eyelash extensions (classic vs volume vs mega-volume) you select.

Usually, volume lashes charge more as the artist will have to spend more time (from 1.5 to 4 hours) creating lash fans and fixing them. However, a gorgeous classic lash set can cost about $80 to $150, while a full set of mega volume or volume lash extensions can be done for $120 to $400. Touch-ups should be priced at about half of your full set.

Are mink eyelash extensions cruelty-free?

Though many eyelash artists call their lashes ‘mink or silk lashes’. Those lashes are not actual animal hair but it is an artificial PBT material that impersonates the shine of animal mink hair. Still, some lash studios offer ‘real mink hair’ eyelashes as an amenity but it is getting rare. We suggest you pick ‘synthetic mink (faux mink) lash’ because the synthetic PBT has excellent retention and flexibility to its color and curl.

Necessary consultation with your lash technician:

Should I get a classic or a volume lash extension set?

First, understand what they mean. The classic lash extension is when a 1:1 lash is applied. It means that one fan is attached to one natural eyelash. Your eyelashes can look more elegant and naturally elongated with the classic set.

A volume eyelash extension is when lash extension of 2D or more exquisite fans is applied to 1 natural eyelash with 2:1. A Volume set gives your lashes a fiercer and more dramatic look.

So, a lash technician creates these 'lash extensions' and applies them on your natural lash. Get your lash extension as soon as possible to look more pretty.

What’s the right length, curl, and fullness for my lashes?

During your primary consultation, your eyelash artist will consider the condition of your natural lashes and choose the right length, curl, and fullness (thickness) for you.

How do I clean my lash extensions?

Try to use an oil-free eyelash cleanser mainly formulated for lash extensions, as some products have ingredients that can reduce the bond and cause lash extensions to shed early. Give your lashes a lash bath every morning and evening and mildly brush your lashes with a spoolie to keep them detangled and clean.

You can find bizarre lashes aftercare products from lash conditioner, lash growth serum, oil-free makeup remover, and lash shampoo.

How to make your eyelash extensions last longer

Resist the following for 24 hours after getting a lash extension:

  • Avoid touching or brushing the lashes
  • Restrict strong wind blowing to your lashes
  • Do not get your eyelashes wet for 24 hours
  • Limit yourself to applying any aftercare product for 24 hours like lash extension sealer

After these initial 24 hours, your aftercare routine becomes easier.

How can you remove your lash extensions?

It is better to remove lash extensions after 3 to 4 weeks of wear to assist the growth cycle of natural lashes. Some extensions will have fallen out in about 3 weeks, and some will have ruined the overall design or grown out. Such extension lashes are better to remove.

It is highly recommended not to remove your eyelash extensions at home. Professionally remove these lashes with a lash glue remover used by a professional lash technician.
